Like A Limb, It Became A Part of Me

Recalling how it all came about, it somehow creates a vague memory welling inside of me. However, this begs the question, does it truly carry the weight of complicated vagueness or is it that I just do not know how to deal with the possible and the inevitable pain that is coming my way, and that I create the illusion of vagueness?
I asked the question not for the sake of asking; but, to mentally prepare myself of what is about to transpire. I know the story in my heart full well and I versed myself to be steeled of the inevitability of a painful encounter with reality.
Thirteen months ago I took on a job whose title I haven't had the chance to previously hold; but, has done the tasks the job entails. It was a contractual type of job that is going to last for 9 months. I'd like to think that I was doing a good job, despite the possibility of a contradicting story from a different party, because I was given the opportunity to have an extension of my contract twice.
I know there will come a time that it will be the true and actual end of the contract, and the possibility of an extension will be an option no longer, for all things will almost always come to an end.
I have prepared myself for such very moment and I was ready and I am ready to put down the gloves and call it a good stint, a completed marathon, a fight well fought.
But, no matter how one prepares himself, he will never be prepared enough when the moment actually comes.
I received the news that it will be the end of service for the contracting role that I took on thirteen months ago. I received it well and I, with all of heart, truly understood that it is what it is and it is bound to happen. I was neither shocked nor bitter about it. By the Grace of God, I took the news gracefully.
However, something that I did not plan for happened and this is the one thing that I wasn't ready nor prepared for. Despite, I think, my deepest intentions to keep myself away from it, with the vision of saving myself from the hurt it may cause, I failed and I failed even without my knowledge. So much for being intentional.
But, what was it that I did not plan nor account for?
I, by accident or by Divine Plan, formed connections and bonds with the people I worked with. It's not even far fetched to make the claim that I befriended them and have viewed them to be a part of me.
However, I do not truly think that the bonds I formed with my workmates was by accident, it was by human nature. God, funny as this may sound, rigged the human soul so that it will always go looking for Him, after all we were made for Him.
But, what's the relation of the previous sentence with the bond I formed? Well, we search for God in so many different ways and we see God in every person we meet. Yes, we may not like everyone we meet, but for the majority of the time, it will almost always tilt always toward seeing the goodness in a person, which ultimately points to seeing the goodness of God.
Initially, I have steeled my resolve knowing that I, by God's grace, will do my job real well and I will walk away unattached with a new addition to my resume as a "Recruitment Strategist - Systems and Automation", and there's such a nice ring to this title.
Walk away unattached? Never in my wildest dreams will this expectation come running back to slap me hard on my face, does it again and a back-handed slap for the second time around.
This is the downside of working with good people and witnessing and seeing their goodness beyond the task and job title given to them, and beholding them as people who are genuinely good, is that an ordinary ending doesn't feel ordinary anymore.
I thought I was preparing myself to lose a job, late did I realize that I'm also preparing myself to lose people.
